Clinical Substance Abuse Panels

Clinical Substance Abuse Panels (CSAP) are a convenient way for the physician to order a combination of the most frequently abused drugs, which may include both illicit and prescribed medications. Drug screen tests are performed by enzyme immunoassay (EIA) with confirmation testing performed on request. The CSAP title indicates the number of substances that are being tested. For example, CSAP 5 indicates that five drugs will be tested. Urine and blood tests are also available.

As non-chain of custody panels, CSAP tests are appropriate for the clinical treatment of the patient but they do not meet State of Hawaii requirements for either workplace or judicial mandated drug testing and should not be utilized for those purposes.
