For the initial drug test, DLS uses EMIT immunoassay. This highly automated and computerized procedure allows the best possible turnaround time while providing accurate results. All positive test results are confirmed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). GC/MS is an extremely sensitive and accurate procedure that identifies each chemical compound in a manner similar to molecular "fingerprinting."
